Body
Artificial Intelligence seems like magic, but it's fundamentally complex math and statistics. This presentation pulls back the curtain on tools like ChatGPT and AI video generators. We will break down in simple terms how they find patterns in data, why they sometimes get things wildly wrong ("hallucinate"), and explore their inherent biases and limitations. The audience will leave with a clear-eyed understanding of what these systems can and cannot do. Attendees will leave with a foundational and practical understanding of Artificial Intelligence, moving from a state of uncertainty to one of comprehension. They will be able to identify common AI chat/video applications, understand the basic principles of how they work, and engage in informed conversations about the ethical and societal impacts of AI. The goal is to replace anxiety with curiosity, understanding and confidence.
Winton Cape is currently completing a Master of Science in Artificial Intelligence. Over 30 years of experience in Information Technology, culminating in the last decade as a Director of IT. The presentation will combine deep, practical understanding of both the technical foundations of AI and its real-world limitations.
